You don’t need to spend $70 to have a great scary night. Some of the best horror games of the last few years cost less than a pizza, and most of them can be finished in an evening.

Here are ten great horror games that are under $10 on Steam at regular price. Plenty of them go even cheaper during sales, and Steam Scream V Fest (October 26 – November 2) is coming up fast.

Prices are regular US Steam prices as of October 6, 2026, and may vary by region.

1. The Consumed: $7.99

Out October 23, 2026

The newest game on this list, and the one I’m most excited about. You’re the night-shift security guard at a dying mall, the Hargrove Galleria. Over five shifts, you check, arm, and secure its stores with a flashlight and a camcorder, and the camcorder doubles as your only weapon: photograph what’s haunting the mall and it’s banished. It’s analog horror meets PSX, with real 1974 mall muzak on the PA and a satire of consumerism running underneath.

It comes from OTR HVN in collaboration with the fashion brand GREY GRADIENT, and it’ll be featured in Steam Scream V Fest. More: What Is The Consumed?

2. Five Nights at Freddy’s: $4.99

The one that started a franchise. You’re the night guard at a pizzeria, watching cameras and rationing power while the animatronics close in. It’s still tense more than a decade later. If you like it, The Consumed puts a fresh spin on the night-guard premise: here’s how they compare.

3. The Exit 8: $3.99

Walk an underground corridor, spot anything that’s changed, and turn back if something’s off. It’s short, clever, and will make you paranoid about every poster you pass for days. Its follow-up, Platform 8, is also $3.99.

4. Iron Lung: $7.99

You’re sealed in a tiny submarine at the bottom of an ocean of blood, navigating only by the photos you take. It’s claustrophobic and minimal, and it proves how much fear you can get out of almost nothing.

5. Buckshot Roulette: $2.99

Russian roulette with a shotgun against a very strange dealer, in a grimy nightclub bathroom. It’s one of the best bang-for-your-buck games on Steam, horror or otherwise.

6. POOLS: $9.79

Empty, tiled, echoing pool rooms with nothing in them, and that’s the scary part. It’s the purest liminal-space game out there, and one of the direct inspirations for The Consumed.

7. The Closing Shift: $5.99

Chilla’s Art’s game about working the closing shift at a coffee shop while something is clearly wrong. It’s a great example of “just doing my job” horror, and a perfect pairing with The Consumed.

8. Bloodwash: $7.99

Puppet Combo’s PSX nightmare about a late-night trip to a laundromat. It has crunchy low-poly visuals, ’80s slasher energy, and a lot of dread. If you like the PS1 horror look, start here.

9. Lethal Company: $9.99

Co-op horror about scavenging scrap from abandoned moons to meet your employer’s quota. It’s hilarious and terrifying with friends, and its “the Company always needs more” setup is great workplace horror.

10. Shift at Midnight: $9.99

Online co-op detective horror for up to three players. You investigate customers across randomly generated shifts, because some of them are only pretending to be human. Get it wrong and you’re boarding up, setting traps, and hiding. It’s another direct inspiration for The Consumed.
