October is the best month of the year to be a horror fan, and 2026 is stacked. Here are the new horror games coming out this month, in release order, plus one that just landed in case you missed it.
Release dates can shift, so double-check the store page before you plan your Halloween around one.
Just Released: Silent Hill: Townfall (September 24)
Platforms: PC, PS5
If you haven’t gotten to it yet, this is the big one. Townfall is a first-person psychological horror game set in a Scottish seaside town. It’s a new Silent Hill, which means fog, dread, and a place that seems to know exactly what’s wrong with you.
Silver Pines (October 8)
Developer / Publisher: Wych Elm / Team17 Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, Switch
A metroidvania-horror hybrid about investigating a missing person in a small town. Good if you like your horror with exploration, backtracking, and a mystery to untangle.
Penguin Colony (October 8)
Developer / Publisher: Origame Digital / Fellow Traveller Platform: PC
Cosmic horror set in 1939 Antarctica, where you play as a penguin witnessing eldritch research. Yes, really. It’s easily the most original premise on this list.
Invokyr (October 8, Early Access)
Platform: PC
Co-op survival horror built around a cursed board game. If your friend group needs something for a Halloween game night, put this on the shortlist.
Tenebris Somnia (October 16)
Developer / Publisher: Andrés Borghi and Saibot Studios / New Blood Interactive Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, Switch
Survival horror that switches between 2D gameplay and live-action FMV. New Blood has a great track record, and the FMV angle makes this one stand out.
Blue Ridge Hunting (October 20, Early Access)
Developer: Jade Meadows Platform: PC
A cryptid-tracking adventure in Appalachia, playable solo or co-op. Folk horror in the woods, with the creatures out there somewhere.
The Consumed (October 23)
Developer: OTR HVN with GREY GRADIENT Platforms: PC (Steam) Price: $7.99
My pick for the indie horror game to watch this month. You’re the night-shift security guard at the Hargrove Galleria, a dying mall with disappearing employees, and you have five shifts to check, arm, and secure its stores with only a flashlight and a camcorder. It’s analog horror meets PSX: camcorder grain, a 20XX timestamp, real 1974 mall muzak on the PA, and a satire of consumerism as religion running underneath. It’s also featured in Steam Scream V Fest (October 26 – November 2).
It draws on Fatal Frame, Silent Hill, The Exit 8, and the Backrooms. I’ve written a lot about it, starting with What Is The Consumed? and The Consumed Is the Backrooms Meets Resident Evil.
Wishlist The Consumed on Steam
Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy (October 27)
Developer: Stormind Games Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2
The return of the Remothered series, Stormind’s stalker-style survival horror, landing just in time for Halloween week.
Don’t Forget: Steam Scream V Fest
Steam’s annual horror event, Steam Scream V Fest, runs October 26 – November 2, 2026. Expect horror sales, demos, and a spotlight on new releases. It’s a great time to fill out your library, and to wishlist the ones on this list that aren’t out yet.
