The Consumed has a localized Chinese name:《扒皮商场》!
We’re excited to share the Simplified Chinese title for our first-person analog and survival horror game. Whether you’ve been following The Consumed in English or are discovering it in Chinese, The Consumed and《扒皮商场》are the same game—and the same very questionable night-shift job.
A quick note: We’ve added localized store artwork featuring 扒皮商场 for players browsing Steam in Simplified Chinese. The Steam title text will be updated separately, so you may still see The Consumed alongside the new artwork in the meantime. Use the direct store link below, or search for the English title, to find the game.
What Does 扒皮商场 Mean?
商场 means “shopping mall.” 扒皮 literally evokes stripping or flaying skin, and can also suggest ruthless exploitation: being squeezed for everything you’re worth.
That gives the name an unsettling double meaning. There’s the threat to your body, and then there’s the idea of a place that takes more from you than you ever intended to give. For a horror game set in a dying shopping mall, with consumerism running through its themes, that feels right at home.
It’s an evocative localization rather than a word-for-word translation of “The Consumed.” The Chinese title brings the mall—and the menace—right to the front.
Same Mall. Same Night Shift.
In The Consumed /《扒皮商场》, you play the new night-shift security guard at Hargrove Galleria. Check the stores, arm the security systems, secure the building, and try to make it through five increasingly difficult shifts.
A flashlight and camcorder are your tools. VHS-meets-PSX visuals set the mood. Whatever else is in the building makes finishing your checklist considerably less straightforward.
The game is directed by the husband-and-wife team Sam and Jackie Knox, and made by OTR HVN in collaboration with GREY GRADIENT.
