What kind of game is The Consumed?

A first-person psychological / analog horror game. You play the night-shift security guard at the Hargrove Galleria, a dying mall with disappearing employees. Over five increasingly difficult shifts, you check, arm, and secure the mall’s stores with just a flashlight and a camcorder, while something in the building makes the job a lot harder. The look is VHS meets PSX: camcorder grain, a 20XX timestamp, and low-poly figures.

OTR HVN hasn’t announced an official playtime. The game is built around five night shifts, plus easter eggs and optional secrets for anyone who explores.

Is The Consumed like Five Nights at Freddy’s?

They share a premise (a night security guard working five shifts), but play very differently. In FNAF you sit in the office, and in The Consumed you walk the floor. I broke it down in The Consumed vs. Five Nights at Freddy’s.

What games inspired The Consumed?

The developers point to Fatal Frame, Silent Hill and P.T., The Exit 8, POOLS, Dreamcore, Shift at Midnight, and Puppet Combo’s Bloodwash, plus analog horror like Local 58 and The Boiled One Phenomenon and Kane Pixels’ The Oldest View. More in 11 Games Like The Consumed.
