GamesCom was especially entertaining this year. Even with the gaping hole left by E3’s absence, we gamers have somehow endured. We’ve thrived, even. We’re more open to new experiences than ever before. (We have to be since the industry is so volatile these days.)
As such, GamesCom was a learning experience for me this year and I decided to record these findings for the archive, as it were. For the betterment of gamerkind. (Or just for some fun. But let’s not split hairs.)
What I learned from GamesCom 2024:
- The death of E3 had some positive effects, actually. GamesCom is now far better than it’s ever been. They’ve decided that the gaming world can’t live without a deluge of world premieres in summer. Das ist gut. Sehr gut.
- Geoff Keighley is a Gen X sex symbol.
- I want Infinity Nikki even more now. Also, where can I buy the plushies of all her fantastical little companions?
- They might make The Sims good again?! (See: Inzoi)
- I had forgotten about Monster Hunter! How could I forget about Monster Hunter? Those adorable palicos grilling up impossibly large monster steaks get me every time. Try not to smile while cooking in Monster Hunter. I dare you.
- As another Monster Hunter point, I can’t wait to fight those weird spiders monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds.
- I’m tired of Zombie games. Stop with the zombie games.
- It’s really endearing when someone cries while presenting their work. (See: Secret Level)
- How much I don’t care about any Marvel game,
- I want Arkham Shadow. Damnit, They got me again. That ominous outro with a slow close-up of the Meta Quest 3 was possibly the best part of the trailer somehow.
- I need those little umbrellas from Little Nightmares 3.
- I will foolishly believe Peter Molyneux’s hype once again (against my better judgement). Masters of Albion looks like goofy (godly) fun.
- How much I don’t care about any Blizzard game. They make games out of some dystopian corporate factory, At least, that’s what it feels like. This point is too long because, like I said, I don’t care. [You must purchase the opinion expansion pack in order to view more.]
- The First Berserker: Khazan is peak anime.
- We are entering the adorable game golden era with Floatopia.
- They are finally doing The Godfather II in video game form. Took them long enough. (See: Mafia Old Country)
