Day one of the Steam Summer Sale is finally here! This is a wonderful day for PC gamers. A wonderfully horrific day for our wallets. Games cost so little and it ends up costing you so much. Each summer I try to set a budget for myself and each summer that budget is destroyed by flash deals. Thankfully, it’s always worth every dollar.
Along with the amazing deals comes a new “adventure.” Valve randomly assigns users to teams and all these teams are pitted against each other. It’s a cute addition to the annual sale. One team wins each day and if you’ve contributed points to the winning team you’ll be rewarded with extra trading cards. Some friendly competition for these sales makes things a bit more interesting.
Here are some of the games I recommend you purchase now if you haven’t already:
- Mirror’s Edge – $4.99 (75% off) Get this one quick, it’s a flash sale!
- Dead Island Riptide – $4.99 (75% off) This one is a flash sale as well so make sure to grab it at this price before it’s gone.
- Don’t Starve – $3.75 (75% off)
- Gone Home – $4.99 (75% off)
- Far Cry 3 – $7.49 (75% off)
- Skyrim – $9.99 (50% off)
- Papers, Please – $4.99 (50% off)
I feel like this sale is a great time to try out those cult games you’ve been afraid to invest in. I got myself a copy of Mirror’s Edge last year for an insanely low price. I was fearful since there were so many disparate opinions about Dice’s dystopian freerunning game. I’m so glad I took the (relatively low) risk. The game is deeply flawed and I see where it garners some of its criticisms, but for the five bucks I paid, it was one of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever had.
I’ve already purchased a few games under ten bucksĀ and I’m sure I’ll be purchasing more when the next flash sale rears its beautifully hideous head.
Happy shopping everyone!
