Day one of the Steam Summer Sale is finally here! This is a wonderful day for PC gamers. A wonderfully horrific day for our wallets. Games cost so little and it ends up costing you so much. Each summer I try to set a budget for myself and each summer that budget is destroyed by flash deals. Thankfully, it’s always worth every dollar.

Gone Home is receiving attention from all over the web: from warm critical reception to disgruntled user reviews. What is it about Gone Home that’s so captivating (and to some, infuriating)? There’s no awe-inspiring adventures, no abhorrent nemesis to fight, no world to save. Yet somehow Gone Home has stolen the hearts of countless gamers through its precise and endearing examination of the most complex thing in existence: family.
The days of Dreamcast have come and gone and since then there has been a serious (okay, not that serious) lack of unique games. Unfortunately, neither awesome alien dance competitions nor subversive roller-skating-graffiti-making teens ever caught on (to everyone’s dismay). Lately, however, there have been some very interesting, unusual and beautiful gaming experiences made possible by the increased popularity of indie games. Here are the top five of this generation by my estimation.
